Our Story

In September 2022, excited about the intersection of national security and emerging technology, Divya Ganesan and Kyla Guru decided to start Stanford’s first all-girls cybersecurity competition team. The journey that followed—from a novice team, to winning first place at nationals—was exciting, empowering but also revealing of the still existing gender barriers in the National Security space. Lacking funding, exposure to defense culture, and community in a male dominated space, the Stanford #CyberSuperGirls strived to build a space with the institutional resources they needed to succeed. Thus was born Stanford Women in National Security! With institutionalized competition funding, mentor networks, and curated national security resources we aim to give Women at Stanford the space to get curious and involved in National Security for the benefit of each other and the world at large.
